Summer Homecoming 2012 Planning (Day 28)

University of West Florida Homecoming Page

Good morning Argos! I am here this morning to provide you with some updates on Homecoming as a whole as well as how Orientation has been going in regards to promotion and advertisement.

On Monday, June 11th and Tuesday, June 12th the University of West Florida held its second Orientation Session for the summer of 2012, and it was a blast! There are a plethora of students who are excited to be Argos and begin their journey at UWF in the Fall semester. During our four break-out sessions throughout the day (two in the morning and two in the afternoon) we acquired a total of 43 in-coming freshman who are interested in volunteering / learning more about Homecoming 2012. This is a wonderful start to the summer, and we cannot wait to potentially work with this students in the fall.

Furthermore, I will be sending out e-mails to our interested freshman and update them on what Homecoming entails as well as getting them in contact with Ashlee Mobley, our Volunteer Coordinator.

As of late I have been working on researching promotional items for Cannon Fest, a wonderful tradition/activity that will be held annually at UWF, so stay tuned for further updates! I have also created the University of West Florida Homecoming Facebook page, which actually has more functionality than the Facebook personThe page allows us to track who is “Liking” our page, how much interaction is occurring on the page, as well as various demographic information (age-range, sex, location, etc.). In my opinion, this is a great method for promoting / advertising an organization via social media. With this being said, be sure to “Like” us on Facebook!

On a side note, Monday (11th), Tuesday (12th), and Wednesday (13th) of this this week the professional faculty and staff of the Commons and Student Activities has been holding on-campus interviews for our new Director of the Commons and Student Activities. This was a wonderful opportunity to sit-in and actually be a part of the interview process. As of now I am not sure when we will have a new Director, but I am excited to see who it will be nonetheless.

Here are some updates on a couple of on-going items that we have been working on:

  •  Vendor Contact: One of the HC E-Board Members has contacted a couple of vendors and has received positive feedback. We will just have to keep the communication going between the third-party organizations.
  • Philanthropy: Will be discussed at our next meeting (Monday, June 18th).
  • Cardboard Cut-Outs: Josh Kolapo is currently working on.
  • Volunteers: Working on.
  • Tri-Fold: Working on.
That is all that I have for now! Have a great weekend and mark your calendars because Homecoming 2012 is going to be THE BEST.
107 days. GO ARGOS!
