Good morning Argos! Today makes day 17 of summer planning for Homecoming 2012. It boggles my mind that we have already entered week four of the summer semester at the University of West Florida. Where has the time gone? This week brings us to the beginning of Freshman Orientation, with Session I starting on Thursday, June 7th. I am highly anticipating meeting, speaking, and interacting with the Freshman Class of 2016, as I am sure they are as well.
This week on Homecoming’s agenda brings us to the final stretch of planning and organizing before the freshman step foot on our campus. A few moments ago I put up a portion of the Homecoming 2012 Executive Committee Bulletin Board. I am not the most creative individual when it comes to making bulletin boards, but I try nonetheless. As of now I have posted photos of all of the members as well as a couple of University Commons and Student Activities (USCA) pamphlets. I plan on adding a couple of paper Argonaut heads and perhaps a UWF Pompom, as well as a Homecoming 2012 heading. My goal is to not make it white, plain, and boring.
This morning at 10:00am the Homecoming 2012 Executive Committee and I met to discuss our current position within planning and implementing what needs to be completed prior to the Fall semester beginning. We basically went through some components that have been checked off of the do-do list or are in the process of being worked on:
- Theme (check)
- Branding- in Marketing’s hands
- Event Calendar (check)
- Promo (check)
- Sponsorship (working on over the summer)
- Contracting (working on)
- Contracting Novelties (working on)
- Set-up (working on)
- Needed Volunteers (for freshman students and currently enrolled students)
- Buttons (check)
We are also continuing work on our banner displays and methods for advertising the various Homecoming 2012 events. With that being said, here are some of the to-dos for Summer 2012:
- Homecoming 2012 T-Shirt Design (a finalized version)
- Promo items
- Marquee Request (front of campus)
- Mr./Ms. UWF Packet updates
- Spirit Competition Rules/Guidelines
- Volunteer Recruitment
- Contacting Facilities about events
I am excited to see the end products of all of these items as well as how they will be implemented throughout actual Homecoming. Stay tuned for more updates!
Additionally, throughout today I will continue reaching out to the various departments / services on campus in regards to potentially getting involved with Homecoming 2012, as well as researching local organizations within the Pensacola area that we could potentially represent as a philanthropy. Giving back matters!
118 days and counting until Homecoming 2012. GO ARGOS!
